The Shop's Christmas Party was a blast. Many of our dealers were there, most with their wonderful husbands. The wine and conversations were flowing, and everyone had a great time. This is the first year that we had a Yankee Swap, what fun, and great gifts.

I would like to thank all of my dealers for a wonderful year. Good cheer and good health to all in the coming year. There are new and exciting things in the works. I gave out old skeleton keys on tags, to tell everyone that they are the key to the success of the shop, and I mean every word. Love, Mary Ellen

This is a chandelier and a bird cage holder that I purchased at the store a few months ago. Again, the lovely Jeannie D. and her husband transformed it to what you see here. It gives off a beautiful warm glow.

These pictures are some things that are in the shop right now, that I just love. I wish I could keep it all, instead of selling it.

I don't have much red in my house, but when I saw this old side table in my shop, I just had to have it. All the accessories on top are also from the shop.

I want to share some pictures of some beautiful things in the store and some pictures from my house. Many things in my house are from my store, of course, like this settee. It didn't look like this when I bought it. It was spray painted green, and the Waverly floral fabric that was on it was also partially spray painted. A lovely woman from the shop, Jeannie D., painted it and recovered it for me, she also made the bolster pillows. It has become a beautiful piece, and I love it.

Shabby Sheik??
I rarely go to yard sales, due to the fact that I am at the shop on Saturday mornings. But this past weekend I switched shifts with another woman. I couldn't believe it, my first Saturday morning off and of course it was pouring out. But, I threw on my yellow slicker and picked up my friend Donna, and we went to one sale that was listed in the paper as a shabby sheik sale. I knew this woman probably called the ad in, and the paper had no clue what shabby chic was. I recognized the street address from a check that this woman had purchased some shabby chic items with. This was no ordinary woman. Christine Glynn or tuttichic.com was in two featured articles in Romantic Country Magazine. My friend Donna and I spent two hours at Christine's house, as she showed us her beautiful home and garden. What a wonderful way to spend a rainy morning. If you have a chance, take a look at tuttichic.com, it's wonderful and inspiring.
What a small world we live in. This weekend I went to a baby shower for my husband's cousin's wife. The shower was in West Roxbury, and there must have been 50 women there. I look across the room and I notice a woman who comes into the shop and buys lovely rose china. I approached her, introduced myself, and asked how she knew the mother to be. She told me that she was a good friend of my mother-in-law Mounira, who passed away a few years ago, and her sister Rose, who also passed away last year. We both couldn't believe it. I can't wait to see her again in the shop so we can reminisce about these lovely women.

When I was coming back from Brimfield, I was thinking that the goods in my store and the way they are displayed can rival most booths in Brimfield. Some of the prices in Brimfield were outragious, compared to our dealers, who are very reasonable. I decided to take some pictures of wares in my own store to prove my point.

Returning from Brimfield...
Today, a few of us went to Brimfield to buy for the shop. We all went separately, but we kept seeing each other all day long. We all had our carts filled with goodies for our customers and some for us. In a few days these wonderful goods will be in the shop for everyone to enjoy. I took pictures of some items that I thought were interesting and to give you an idea of what type of goods are at Brimfield.

Brimfield
Some of our dealers, including myself, are going to Brimfield this week. You never know what we will return with. I love going, not just to buy for the shop, but to see what is hot or up and coming in the market. These dealers come from all over the country, so it is always very interesting to see what wares they are selling. When I was there in July, I just missed Martha Stewart and Rachel Ashwell. These women are trend setters and it is very interesting to go into the booths that they have bought from to see what they have purchased. Brimfield is filled with very creative people and interesting goods and I find it to be very inspiring.

The shop is in full fall mode. Mums, mums, mums, and Halloween decor. Why go to one store to buy mums and another to buy a container? We do it for you. Our dealers are very creative in filling unique containers with beautiful mums. Take a look.

Buying Trip to Cape Cod

For a couple of weeks now, I have been going to Cape Cod to buy for the shop. I found some great shabby chic pieces. What could be better than going to the Cape on a beautiful sunny day to shop for goods for my customers that I know they will just love? Ahhh, pure heaven.

The Road to Owning the Wrentham Country Store

by Mary Ellen Shia

I have been buying and searching out antiques and vintage goods for many years. So I decided five years ago, that I needed to start selling some of my things.

I started out by selling in Brimfield at May's for one day during May and July. But I didn't want to be lugging my wares all over the place. I needed a permanent space. One day, a month before my wedding, I spotted a sign that read "Space for Rent". It was as simple as inquiring in the shop and the next thing I knew, I had rented a small space in a multi-dealer shop. I was on my way.

I was always a big fan of Shabby Chic, so that is what I concentrated on. I was the first in the shop to sell shabby chic. At first, they didn't know what to make of the chippy pink and green wares I was selling, since the store was filled with country and prim goods. But my goods were selling, and now of course the store is filled with shabby chic wares.

Almost 2 years ago, the previous owner told me he was moving to CA, and asked me if I wanted to take over the shop. I talked it over with my husband, Ray, who was very supportive from the very beginning. I decided to jump in and run the shop. I always said, if you want something done ask a busy person. Did I mention I also have a full time job, while running the Wrentham Country Store? People ask me all the time, how do you do it all? My answer, sometimes I don't know. But I do know, I just love the shop, I love seeing our customers excited about what we are selling and how we decorate the shop. It is definitely hard work, but I can't imagine doing anything else. I Love It.
